Red Tail Rim Trail South Trailhead

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted. All sites are first-come, first-served. Fees: No Fees Mountain Biking: - This is one of the few trails designated for mountain biking in the Modoc National Forest. - This trail is not a loop and the opposite trailhead is located at Red Tail Rim Trail North, about 8 miles north of Adin along Hwy 299/139. - Please be alert for horses and hikers along this trail. - Stop and step downhill when encountering horses. - Share the trail. Fire Information: - Fires are permitted only in fireplaces provided. - Gathering of dead and down wood is permitted. Day Hiking: - Hikers may spend as much or as little time as they wish on this charming trail. - This trail is also very popular with horses and mountain bikers. - Be sure you step off the trail on the downhill side when you encounter horses like horses and pack animals have the right-of-way. - Please share the trail. Horse Riding: - Horseback riding is popular on this trail. - This trail is not a loop. - The opposite trailhead is located at Red Tail Rim Trail North, along Hwy 299/139 about 8 miles north of Adin. - Please be aware that mountain bikers and hikers may be encountered along your ride. - We ask that hikers and bikers be courteous and step downhill from the trail when encountering horses. - Share the trail.
